Hello?   Leave a comment

Wow, this looks vaguely familiar! Being home sick for the fifth day in a row has enabled me to do some poking around on the web as well as get quite a bit of administrative-type work done for the library. Maybe I will reopen this window. Not sure that I have all that much to say now, not that I did back then, either! I guess I just thought I did.

So it’s been a humbling year. We now live in a cute little apartment just down the road from our old house. It has a pool in the front, the salt marsh in the back, and if I go outside and walk towards the road I see the seawall and the Atlantic Ocean. It’s a great location and we love it here.

I’m now a school librarian and technology integrator. This job is much more difficult than I thought it would be. Being a new librarian means reading a ton of books and writing book talks on them for the 4th and 5th graders. It also means buying books, but of course not just any books. Good quality books for all grade levels, kindergarten through grade 5. Books that support the curriculum, books that will inspire a lifelong love of reading. Picture books that will thrill the ear and eye. Don’t forget the requests for books on origami, Star Wars, the army, scary books, and unicorns.

Oh, I forgot about the cataloging. And there is so much more! (Fortunately, I do have two helpful librarians in the district who must have made a pact to help me. I am very grateful!)

And then there’s the other half of my job, the technology integration piece. This is going to prove to be more difficult. NH has a digital portfolio requirement and I am the person at our school who will be responsible to get the projects completed.

Anyhow, I am home sick today and it’s time for a nap.
